Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight scheduled for March 13, 2010

The long anticipated fight between Pacquiao vs Mayweather is tentatively scheduled for March 13, 2010, the LA Times reported Wednesday. Floyd Mayweather has agreed to the terms for the welterweight title fight, but Pacquiao has still to review the details of contract.

Manny Pacquiao is the bigger draw and made more pay-per-view money this year than Floyd Mayweather, but they are the top two money makers in boxing right now. Both fighters would like a date prior to May 1, 2010 and this date is the date that may work best for both sides.

"Of course," Freddie Roach, Manny’s coach told the LA Times, "Manny believes he should get a 60-40 [purse] split too, because he did better in pay-per-view than Mayweather this year. Manny's the bigger draw."

"March 13 is too fast a turnaround," said Roach. "I'd like to have more time. I hope the fight happens, yes, but I want us to be in the best possible shape." The Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight is really something to look forward for. Let's hope that Pacquiao's injured eardrum won't affect the fight.

Manny wants 60-40 split vs Mayweather

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao wants no less than a 60-40 split in his favor if and when a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr takes place.

This was revealed by Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach, who told boxingscene.com that Pacquiao based his demands on the pay-per-view numbers of his last fight against Miguel Cotto, compared to the numbers generated by the Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez bout.

Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum is currently in the country to lure Pacquiao into a possible March 13 bout possibly against Mayweather.

Roach told the Los Angeles Times that talks of a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight being close to a done deal is premature.

“Manny believes he should get a 60-40 [purse] split too, because he did better in pay-per-view than Mayweather this year. Manny's the bigger draw,” Roach told the Times.

The multi-awarded trainer, however, believes that a March fight with Mayweather might be too early, especially following a hard fight against Miguel Cotto.

“March 13 is too fast a turnaround,” Roach said. “Manny has a broken [right] eardrum suffered in the Cotto fight. I'd like to have more time. I hope the fight happens, yes, but I want us to be in the best possible shape.”

The original plan was for Pacquiao to see action on May 1, if nobody had stepped up to face him in the congressional contest in Saranggani. However, following Roy Chiongbian's filing of his certificate of candidacy, organizers will have to move it earlier to March or push it back to September.

Reps of both the Superdome in New Orleans and the new Dallas Cowboys' stadium have sent feelers for them to host the bout, as has the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where both fighters have fought their biggest fights.

There is also a proposal for a 30,000-seat temporary stadium to be set up on the Las Vegas Strip just across the Wynn resort.

This is another thing that needs to be arranged before the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight. 60-40 might sound alright but multiply that in millions and that 10% becomes really big.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather: what's not to like about it?

It's two forces that were eventually going to collide sooner or later. The negotiations are currently taking place that if successful will match up the two best fighters on the earth. The undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr vs the pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao. There is bad blood between the camps, and that bad blood crosses over into the world of boxing fans as well. The Manny Pacquiao fans make no bones about it, they think Mayweather is a coward, a fighter that has selectively cherry picked smaller opponents throughout his career. They feel as if he's a paper champion, and in some eyes, they don't feel he's even worthy enough to fight Manny Pacquiao.

Floyd Mayweather's fans are a lot less vocal. Perhaps it's a nervousness? perhaps they are quietly watching and realize that Pacquiao will present their fighter with the most difficult fight he's ever had. The bad blood also is evident between the two camps as well. There is no love lost between Mayweather Sr and Pacquiao trainer Freddie Roach. Both men have publicly thrashed one another. Mayweather Sr basically accuses Pacquiao of taking, "something fishy." In other words, he is blaming Pacquiao's stunning success on steroids. There is no basis or merit to these allegations as Pacquiao has passed all drug tests as required by the commissions. Nevertheless, you can't convince Big Floyd of it. He's sticking by his theory, and makes no bones about it. Big Floyd gives absolutely no respect whatsoever to boxing legend and trainer Freddie Roach. Big Floyd has countless times, on the record, insulted Roach, calling him, "No coach joke Roach." So needless to say, there are plenty side attractions that are involved leading up to this fight.

The two men have taken different paths in their careers. Mayweather has beaten some big name fighters, but the ongoing wrap on him is that his opponents are smaller and selectively picked. With that said, he still is undefeated, and has extremely good boxing skills. His defense is excellent, his timing is excellent, and his ability to counter punch is second to none. Mayweather will provide Manny Pacquiao with a very difficult task.

Pacquiao on his way to the top has wreaked havoc, and left a path of destruction. He's conquered Mexican warriors like Morales, Barrera, De La Hoya. He's wiped out guys like Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, and David Diaz. His fame has shot through the roof on an international scale. This is a classic good guy, vs bad guy set up. Pacquiao is loved by the masses due to his story, and his character. Mayweather is looked at more like the villain, a guy that people love to hate. He's brash, he throws his money around, he has a swagger about him that most people don't take too kindly to.

This fight matches up the sports two biggest names. It matches up the sports two most recognized fighters of today. This fight matches up Pacquiao's blinding speed and power against Maweather's superb defense, counter punching, and quickness. The perfect good guy vs bad guy scenario, the perfect storm, with the side show attractions between Roach and Big Floyd. Pacquiao vs Mayweather, who doesn't want to see this? -source

Yeah, who doesn't want to see this?! The Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight is a great match-up.

Pacman to earn P2 billion vs Mayweather

Manny Pacquiao could earn as much as $40 million (roughly P2 billion) when he fights Floyd Mayweather on March 13, 2010, possibly in Las Vegas.

“I learned that Pacquiao’s guaranteed purse (for the Mayweather fight) is about $25 million and because the pay-per-view sales would be a success, Manny’s earning can go to as high as $40 million,” disclosed Pacquiao adviser Wakee Salud Saturday after the Filipino fighter himself revealed that the Mayweather fight is on.

Salud could not tell exactly how the profits are going to be divided but “a 50-50 sharing should be fair to both fighters.”

Against Miguel Cotto last month, Pacquiao was guaranteed a paycheck of $13 million but owing to the success of the pay-per-view sales that generated 1.25 million buys at $54.95 per subscription, the 30-year-old Pacquiao wound up getting $22 million.

Mike Koncz, the Canadian adviser of Pacquiao, who was the only one present when Pacquiao met with promoter Bob Arum on Friday morning, said the figures ended up "where we want it to be” and that everything is green and go for the 12-round fight that will see Pacquiao staking his World Boxing Organization welterweight crown.

“(The only way this is not pushing through is) if Mayweather chickens out of the fight,” Koncz said.

Arum was surprised over Pacquiao’s declaration that the fight is indeed happening next year but a formal joint announcement with Golden Boy Promotions (GBP) will be issued this coming week.

Arum said only “acts of God” or that “somebody acting like crazy” will prevent the fight from taking place.

GBP Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer, who is Oscar De La Hoya’s right-hand man, has been given authority by Mayweather to negotiate on his behalf. Mayweather has dealt with GBP on two occasions, both of them pay-per-view and box-office hits.

Because of time constraints, a plan to hold a promotional tour has been shelved but a major press conference will be held either January 11 or 12 in New York and that instead of the usual four-part 24/7 documentary show produced by HBO aimed at promoting the bout, Arum said there will be one additional episode that will be filmed.

Koncz said Pacquiao will likely set up camp once again in Baguio City before heading to the Wild Card in Hollywood a month or two or three weeks before the fight.

Arum, who flies back to the US tonight, said Pacquiao should get ready for the deluge of media from all over the world once he begins training in the City of Pines, the site of his preparation for the Cotto showdown. -source

P2 billion! That's a lot of money! The Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight is truly a big fight in the history of boxing.

Floyd camp begins 'trash talks' versus Pacquiao

The deal for the much-anticipated megabout between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather, Jr is yet to be finalized but the "trash talks" have already commenced – at least from the Mayweather camp.

Reacting to reports that Pacquiao has agreed in principle to fight his son on March 13, outspoken trainer Floyd Mayweather, Sr. quickly got on the offensive and declared such decision a "blunder" on the part of the Filipino superstar.

“I do feel that Pacquiao is making a mistake going up against my son," the elder Mayweather said in an interview with Examiner.Com.

Floyd Sr.
The forthright trainer reiterated that Junior would simply toy with the Pacman, whom his son has earlier described as one-dimensional.

“Floyd is the most technical fighter out there," Mayweather Sr. offered. “He’ll control the fight easily with his ring generalship. I don’t see anything that Pacquiao can bring for him. If Floyd stays away from that left, it will be easy work."

Senior has been at it against Pacquiao since he worked the corner of former IBO light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton. Pacquiao knocked out his ward in two rounds but that did not stop Mayweather Sr. from downplaying the Pacman’s skills to the point of accusing him of taking performance-enhancing substances to boost his ascent in weight.

Pacquiao has denied such allegations and backed up his position by testing negative for steroids and other illegal substances in tests conducted before and after his last fight against Miguel Cotto as well as all his previous gigs.

Still, Mayweather Sr. is adamant on the dope thing.

“I’m going to tell you what you really want to know, which is my personal opinion. Of course I think something shady is going on behind the scenes. A guy just can’t rise like that in weight class and punch the way he does. I feel he needs to be checked out before the next fight," he told Examiner.Com.

Floyd is the most technical fighter out there. He’ll control the fight easily with his ring generalship. I don’t see anything that Pacquiao can bring for him. If Floyd stays away from that left, it will be easy work.
– Floyd Mayweather Sr.

But dope or no dope, Senior boasted that Pacquiao really has no shot against his boy.

“Manny Pacquiao shouldn’t have signed the fight. He isn’t going to beat Floyd Mayweather Jr. In no shape or form can he possibly beat my son," he said.

Pacquiao, though, appears ready to take Mayweather’s tirades in stride, knowing "trash talks" are part of their tactics.

“Pagkakaiba ni Floyd Mayweather sa ibang nakalaban ko is si Floyd, marami siyang thrash talk na di dapat gayahin ng mga bata," Pacquiao earlier said when he announced his decision to accept the proposal on GMA’s 24 Oras.

And of course, his equally outspoken trainer Freddie Roach will always be there to take the cudgels in so far as throwing verbal jabs against the opposition is concerned. - GMANews.TV

Pacquiao vs Mayweather March 13, Mayweather vs Pacquiao tickets and pacquiao mayweather fight

Pacquiao vs Mayweather March 13, Mayweather vs Pacquiao tickets and pacquiao mayweather fight. Manny Pacquiao and Mayweather fight to be held in March is being billed as one of the most important fight of all times. Here are two fighters who are out and out professionals and who have achieved heights of fame and respect through sheer hard work and commitment.

Manny Pacquiao had defeated Cotto last month in a fight that was supposed to be a big test for him, but he came out unscathed defeating Cotto with his overwhelming power and quick movement.

But the fight against Mayweather Jr is going to be an altogether different thing. He is a lot more accomplished than Cotto and has won almost as many boxing championships or more than Manny Pacquiao.

There were reports that the two may fight in May next year. But with Manny Pacquiao trying his luck in Philippines Senate, the May fight was ruled out and now there are indications that it may well be held in March next year.

There are reports that Mayweather has already accepted the terms and condition for the fight while Manny Pacquiao is sure to accept them when he gets free from his busy schedule.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather would begin negotiations on a mega blockbuster fight within the next 24 hours, USA Today newspaper reported on Monday.

Mayweather told the paper that he wants to fight Pacquiao and it disturbs him that the Filipino won't admit he wants the fight as well.

"Manny Pacquiao is the fighter and every time someone asks him if he wants to fight me, he says it is up to his promoter, he's going to take a vacation, whatever the answer is," USA Today quoted Mayweather saying on Monday.

"I have yet to hear him actually say, 'yes I want to fight Mayweather.' We are the fighters and if one fighter is talking about fighting another fighter, then they should just come out and say it.

"Manny Pacquiao doesn't say anything directly about fighting me because he might just know it's not a fight he can win."

Mayweather's challenge comes just days after Pacquiao's stunning systematic demolition of Puerto Rican champ Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas.

After a close first couple of rounds Pacquiao (50-3-2, 38 KOs) switched to his up tempo style and pummeled Cotto for several rounds before the referee stepped in and stopped the one-sided slaughter.

The victory validated newly-crowned World Boxing Organization welterweight champ Pacquiao as the greatest Asian fighter in history. It also helped raise his status, along with Mayweather, as two of the best current pound-for-pound fighters in boxing.

It was also the seventh world title in as many weight classes for Pacquiao, something even the American Mayweather cannot claim.

"Tell Manny Pacquiao to be his own man and stop letting everyone, including his loudmouth trainer (Freddie Roach), talk for him," said Mayweather. "I am my own boss, speak for myself and tell it like it is. If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight me, all he has to do is step up to the plate and say it himself."

Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum said he wants to make a deal but hopes egos don't get in the way. "All you have to know is that my fighter and his trainer Freddie Roach have gone on record saying they're happy to fight Mayweather," said Arum who used to promote Mayweather.

"Hopefully we'll be able to put this together. From our side, we're willing."

In his last fight Mayweather decisioned Juan Manuel Marquez in September. Before that, he took a two-year hiatus from boxing. He has a reputation of being someone that is difficult to deal with.

"Maybe I prefer not to deal with him. But if your fighter wants a fight, you deal. Mayweather is not one of my favourite people and I'm sure I'm not one of his. What difference does that make?" Arum said.

Pacquiao said he is comfortable fighting at the welterweight (147 pound) division and would like to fight there again. -source

I think the article clearly described Mayweather, a loudmouth. Let's see him fight in the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight.

Mayweather on duel with Pacquiao: Easy fight

Despite Manny Pacquiao’s masterful destruction of a supposedly stronger and bigger Miguel Cotto, comebacking Floyd Mayweather, Jr. is still unimpressed.

In fact, Mayweather believes that if ever his megabuck battle for the mythical pound-for-pound throne with Pacquiao materializes, it will be an “easy fight" for him.

"All I can say is he's a fighter like I'm a fighter. I don't see no versatility in Manny Pacquiao, I just see a good fighter, a good puncher, but one-dimensional," Mayweather said, as quoted by The Telegraph.

Can Manny Pacquiao beat me? No, absolutely no. Easy win, easy fight. – Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

The 30-year-old Pacquiao has taken the mantle as the world’s top P4P fighter ever since Mayweather retired in 2008, validating his status with spectacular triumphs over A-listers like Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Cotto. With his 12th round TKO of Cotto, the Pacman has also earned the distinction of being the first fighter to win a world title in a seventh weight division.

The unbeaten Mayweather has un-retired this year, thoroughly beating an undersized Juan Manuel Marquez in a welterweight clash last September.

With the two superstars disposing of their respective rivals, the boxing world is all eager to see an ultimate showdown between the reigning P4P king, Pacquiao, and the current No. 2 in the Ring Magazine list, Mayweather.

This early, Golden Boy Promotions, which co-promoted the Mayweather-Marquez showdown, is reportedly ready to step in as middleman to negotiate with Pacquiao’s promoter Top Rank.

However, the blockbuster card may encounter major stumbling blocks in terms of share of the purse and PPV (both fighters wanting the lion’s share) and weight (Pacquiao possibly wanting a catch weight of 145 lbs and Mayweather preferring the regular welterweight ceiling of 147 lbs.)

If, in the end, the two camps come to terms, Mayweather boasted he would come out victorious like he did in all his previous fights.

"Can Manny Pacquiao beat me? No, absolutely no. Easy win, easy fight," the 32-year-old fighter said.

I don't see no versatility in Manny Pacquiao, I just see a good fighter, a good puncher, but one-dimensional. – Floyd Mayweather, Jr.

This fight, he added, won’t be as exciting, knowing the outcome from the onset.

"If I beat Manny Pacquiao they'll say, 'You're supposed to beat him, you're the bigger man. You supposed to knock him out'. When I beat him, people won't be surprised because he's been beaten before. He's been knocked out twice before," Mayweather said.

“The world will go wild if Floyd Mayweather gets beat, that's what the world is looking to see. They're trying to make a fighter to beat me. I'm a fighter that's never been beaten. I don't get any respect in the sport of boxing," he added.

Pacquiao at this point, though, won’t commit on his next fight, preferring to leave it all up to his promoter, Bob Arum. - GMANews.TV

I have a feeling that if the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight pushes through, Mayweather will be eating his words.

Be your own man, Floyd dares Pacquiao

While Manny Pacquiao was expressing his thanks and mentioning many names immediately after his latest win, Floyd Mayweather, Jr. was apparently waiting for his own name to be mentioned by the pound-for-pound king.

He was not expecting a thank you, but what he wanted to hear was a challenge, for Pacquiao to call out his name and dare him to a fight.

“Tell Manny Pacquiao to be his own man and stop letting everyone, including his loudmouth trainer, talk for him. I am my own boss, speak for myself and tell it like it is. If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight me, all he has to do is step up to the plate and say it himself,” Mayweather told Fightnews.

A Pacquiao-Mayweather is looming as one of the biggest non-heavyweight fights in modern day boxing history. It’s so big that Station Casinos in Las Vegas are already taking bets on who will win.

ESPN reported that Pacquiao opened as an 8-5 favorite but a few $20,000 bets gave Mayweather a little push and made it 7-5 as of Tuesday, still Pacquiao’s way.

“Their whole promotion was just a Mayweather sweepstakes. They know it and anyone could figure that out. Why? Because my name kept coming up and I didn’t even say anything,” Mayweather said.

“Even when he was interviewed on ESPN by Brian Kenny, he was asked about fighting me and what did he say? Not ‘yes I want to fight Mayweather or bring it on.’ But no! He said ‘hum, ahh, well talk to my promoter.’”

After an 18-month hiatus, Mayweather returned to the ring last September and decisioned former Pacquiao foe and world lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez in their 12-round fight in Las Vegas where Mayweather failed to make the catch weight of 144lbs and fought as a full 147-lb welterweight.

“I have yet to hear him actually say, ‘yes I want to fight Mayweather.’ We are the fighters and if one fighter is talking about fighting another fighter, then they should just come out and say it. Manny Pacquiao doesn’t say anything directly about fighting me because he might just know it’s not a fight he can win,” said Mayweather.

Asked to comment about Mayweather’s rants Pacquiao’s adviser Michael Koncz said the flashy American just wants to sound like he is still the king of the sport.

“Manny doesn’t need to call him out. Manny’s on top right now. Mayweather knows what number to call if he really wants to make the fight,” Koncz told The Bulletin last Tuesday.

Koncz said Pacquiao is taking his well-deserved break while they are also waiting for the Pay-Per-View (PPV) numbers regarding the Filipino’s victory over Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto last weekend in Las Vegas.

“We need to see what the Pay-Per-View numbers are for us. If we come in at 750 (thousand) which I doubt, we won’t have much leverage. But if we come in at 1.5 (million) we’ll have a lot of leverage. We have to wait. I think it’s premature and foolish to start talking about any fight until we get the numbers,” added Koncz.

PPV king HBO has set a March 2009 return for Pacquiao, something which the Filipino’s trainer, Freddie Roach, said will be too close.

“May or June, in that ballpark. March may be too close to get a big fight like that going. I’d like to see Manny take a rest and then get into it,” Roach told ESPN. Pacquiao is set to arrive on Friday in an expected frenzied Philippine welcome. -source

This is a classic boxer attitude, bashing and calling out the other fighter as a coward. I think the one who has a loud mouth is the coward. Let's see that Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight set already!

Fight not made, but betting line is

taking bets on who will win if the Philippines' Manny Pacquiao and American Floyd Mayweather Jr. ever get into the ring.

Pacquiao, coming off his dominating win over Miguel Cotto, opened as an 8-5 favorite at sports books operated by Station Casinos, and it didn't take long for bettors to take a side. Several $20,000 bets were put down on Mayweather, forcing the line down to 7-5 in the early going, said Art Manteris, the casino operator's vice president of sports book operations.

"It's been pretty decisive in the early going," Manteris said. "I think I made the line a little too high but that's the nature of the business."

Manteris said he made Pacquiao the favorite based largely on the public perception of his big win over Cotto. Most of the early bets, he said, came from professional handicappers, who thought the line was too high.

Pacquiao promoter Bob Arum said he was ready to begin negotiations with Mayweather's promoter on a fight, while Mayweather issued a statement Monday saying he wanted to hear from Pacquiao himself that he really wants the fight.

"Tell Manny Pacquiao to be his own man and stop letting everyone, including his loudmouth trainer, talk for him," Mayweather said. "I am my own boss, speak for myself and tell it like it is. If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight me, all he has to do is step up to the plate and say it himself."

Pacquiao told The Associated Press last month he didn't think Mayweather wanted to fight him, and criticized the undefeated fighter for fighting too defensively and not trying to entertain fans.

His trainer, Freddie Roach, said after the Cotto fight that Pacquiao would be more than happy to fight Mayweather, but that Mayweather wasn't going to dictate the terms of the fight. Talks will likely be difficult, especially when it comes to what percentage of the revenues each fighter would receive.

The fight, though, has the possibility of becoming the richest ever and many in boxing assume that there is far too much money to be made for the fight not to happen.

"I think that's the fight the world wants to see," Roach said. "But if Floyd wants a 65-35 split (of the purse) he's not going to get it."

Assuming the fight can be made, it would likely take place next May. Las Vegas casinos would have the inside track on landing it, but there has been speculation that it could go somewhere like the new Dallas Cowboys stadium or even Yankee Stadium.

Any bets made on the fight will be refunded if it is not held by the end of 2010. -source

Pacquiao's only option is to fight Mayweather Jr.

Manny Pacquiao was vocal enough to say he no longer wants to have anything to do with former champion Juan Manuel Marquez finally closing the possibility of a third fight between him and his long-time Mexican nemesis.

“Walang manood diyan kapag si Marquez ang kalaban. Sinong manood pa diyan?" Pacquiao said emphatically turning down a fight against the same man who forced him to a controversial draw, which he later defeated by split decision in a big-time rematch.

With Marquez literally out of Pacquiao’s picture, the newly-crowned seven-division champion is left with no choice but to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. in what many perceive as one of the biggest matches ever in boxing history.

Pacquiao said he wants to relax first and enjoy some time with his family after winning a 12-round battle against Miguel Cotto in their welterweight title bout Saturday (Sunday in Manila) at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The world’s top pound-for-pound fighter won the match behind a one-sided 12-round stoppage.

The General Santos City native added he won’t make any plans until December and is leaving it all up to Top Rank boss Bob Arum as to who will be his next opponent.

But obviously, the fans want a Pacquiao-Mayweather showdown.

“The public says we want that fight to happen, the way they clamored for the Leonard-Hearns fight," said Hall of Fame trainer Emmanuel Steward.

“It’s going to be an intriguing fight because Floyd is a technical fighter. He knows how to break back and box a little," he said of Mayweather’s fighting stance opposite to Pacquiao’s relentless and gung-ho style.

Steward, an analyst with HBO boxing who trained some of the world’s former champions including Hearns, is sure the mega-bout will be made. “As to when and who could earn more in terms of money, I think it should be 50-50."

Mayweather, the former world pound-for-pound king who’s on the comeback trail, has vocally said he won’t agree on such an even share in terms of prize money.

But Steward said Pacquiao has all the rights to an equal sharing especially now that he’s proven to be boxing’s biggest attraction following his big win against another quality fighter in Cotto.

“I think Manny has earned his position as an attraction, and to me, not just pound-for-pound champion today, but he is one of the all-time greatest," said the long-time trainer who owned the famous Kronx gym.

HBO president Ross Greenberg, however, announced during the post-fight press conference of the Pacquiao-Cotto duel that boxing people, especially Arum and Golden Boy Promotions’ Richard Schaefer, are trying all means to make the fight between the Filipino boxing icon and Mayweather possible.

Schaefer’s involvement came upon after Mayweather Promotions tied up with Golden Boy in putting up the Mayweather-Marquez encounter last September, a non-title match that proved to be a big draw, earning more than a million in Pay-Per-View hits.

“He (Schaefer) plans to come in and meet with Bob next week to make the Mayweather fight. So I think you can all hope and pray that a fight of that magnitude and importance to the sport of boxing can truly be made because it is time to capitalize on all the hard work that was done over the last three months and we can look forward to one of the biggest events in boxing history."

“Let’s see what happens. Stay tune," said Greenberg. – GMANews.TV

This is definitely a must see match up, Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight. I hope it pushes through. I wonder how many millions of dollars will both Pacquiao and Mayweather earn.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight odds, Pacquiao vs Cotto video and Pacquiao vs Cotto full fight video

Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight odds, Pacquiao vs Cotto video and Pacquiao vs Cotto full fight video. Following Pacquiao defeating Cotto in an almost one sided fight, people are excited to know that he would be fighting Mayweather. This will be the mother of all fighting and there are high expectations from it.

Many people have said that Pacquiao is among the best boxer right now in the world.

Angel Villanueva says, “If Manny Pacquiao was an American he would be rated the best of all time greats. But alas, he comes from a poor country and Pacquiao will never be given his due”.

Anthony says, “He proved he has massive skills once again, but all this talk about if he was American he would be treated better and ranked higher is complete trash! He has to beat Mayweather to become the greatest, stop crying and blaming non-existent things!”

Gino says, Mayweather won't fight him. Although Manny is one of the only fighters who is fast enough to chase Mayweather while he runs away the whole fight. Would be a good fight though.”

Jonas says, “That fight, and the last several Paquaio fights all seemed rigged. He is a great fighter, but his career is also a lucrative one for a sport with declining sales”.

Felipe Timoteo says, “Implied or otherwise, more than a handful of Americans know what the PacMan can greatly do. Despite their quiet discriminatory or racial bias, they would have or must have seen the capability of someone from the so-called Third World country beat the living hell out of those who are courageous enough to willingly receive punishing fists from the Pound-For-Pound King. Long live the P4P King!”

Another Khabrein reader says, “First Mayweather is the pound for pound best boxer out there. You think Pacquiao is quick just watch Mayweather destroy people with jabs from the outside his speed can not be matched. If Mayweather does fight it will be a boring fight both fighters are boxers they will both try to use their jabs, stick and move, but Mayweather is way faster than Pacquiao. I say it will go all twelve rounds and it will be a split decision in Mayweathers favor”.

In the meantime the fight that was dominated by Pacquiao ended in the 12th round with Cotto being knocked out.

Using extraordinary power and speed, Pacquiao lifted his seventh title in seven weight classes. The win will further consolidate his position in lightweight competition. From the very beginning of the one-sided fight, Cotto was cornered.

At the end of the fight, he was left with bleeding face and it was after this brutal punching that the referees stopped the matched, declaring Pacquiao winner.

Early in the third round, the mighty Pacquiao dropped Cotto with a right hand. And the fans, turned up in great number to watch their star fight, were up on their legs. They thought that was the end of the game.

But it was not. Cotto made a strong comeback. However, the next moment Pacquiao punched Cotto and that was the beginning of Cotto downfall. He was not the same again.

Pacquiao kept coming after him relentlessly, leaving very little option for Cotto who was just trying to defend himself. With blood flowing down his face Cotto was just trying to survive. Whatever the result, fans across the world relished the high-intensity fight.

Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight Odds

It's not too soon to start thinking about Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Fight odds even if they have yet to be posted. The odds are good that this could happen and Mayweather may actually find himself in uncharted territory....as the underdog.

Freddie Roach has said of the potential for this fight: "I think it will get done. I mean where is Mayweather going to go? What's he going to do, fight the winner of Berto vs Mosley? He doesn't want that either, he wants to make money also, and so does Manny Pacquiao. We will offer him a 60/40 split."

Prior to the Pacquiao/Cotto fight Saturday night, Mayweather wanted the 60/40 split going his way.

Odds on a Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather fight should prove more competitive than Pacquiao vs. Cotto where Pacquiao hovered around a -275 to -300 favorite.

"Manny Pacquiao will likely be closer to -150 to -200," said Don Shapiro of Gambling911.com.

With Saturday night's victory, Pacquiao took the WBO welterweight title, his seventh world championship, and became the first boxer in history to win seven world titles in seven different weight divisions

After the fight, promoter Bob Arum stated that: "Pacquiao is the greatest boxer I've ever seen, and I've seen them all, including Ali, Hagler and Sugar Ray Leonard."

For the online sportsbooks industry, this was the most bet on fight of the year thus far.

"Search traffic was very good," said Gambling911.com Senior Editor, Payton O'Brien. "Pacquiao vs. Mayweather would be greater and Gambling911.com will be the first site to notify its readers as soon as odds are available, assuming of course that fight goes off."

Pacquiao vs. Mayweather? Let the talks begin

Yes, Manny Pacquiao appeared at the Mandalay Bay late Saturday night, microphone in hand.

“Eight songs,” he said, before he left the MGM Grand. “But you can get in for $40.”

That's $5 a song, but then the performer was playing hurt. Pacquiao had his right ear bandaged after a locker-room procedure, and he had the usual welts and bumps on his face that indicated he had a fight with someone.

The other guy? Miguel Cotto was at a hospital getting a full round of body scans, at the request of the state athletic commission.

He already had suffered a comprehensive X-ray by Pacquiao, who knocked down Cotto in rounds 3 and 4 and was so superior that Cotto basically backpedaled his way through the final three rounds before referee Kenny Bayless stopped the fight with 55 seconds remaining in the 12th round.

Pacquiao twice stood there and beckoned Cotto to come forward, and some fans looked incredulously at Cotto's corner, which couldn't find a white towel.

“If the guy's going to quit fighting and he's out there beaten up and spitting blood, c'mon, why not stop it?” said Freddie Roach, Pacquiao's trainer. “You gotta be more compassionate than that.”

Forgotten was Cotto's 34-1 record and his reputation as the best technical welterweight. Or that Pacquiao's training camp was re-located by Philippines' typhoons and disrupted by Pacquiao's endless entourage and the fighter's own preoccupation with karaoke.

None of it mattered.

Such is Pacquiao's current level.

Only one other boxer stands with him.

Which is why Ross Greenburg, the chairman of HBO sports, sat at a podium and periodically answered his phone and practically held a conversation with himself.

“This fight has to happen,” Greenburg said. “It happened about five times in the 80's. You think of

Ray Leonard and Thomas Hearns. That's the type of fight this is.”

He was speaking of Floyd Mayweather Jr., of course, who is unbeaten and, in affairs like this, somewhat inscrutable. The unbeaten Mayweather already has retired once and will not be a passive negotiator.

“I've already gotten three nasty messages,” Greenburg said. “Let's face it, the decision will not be made by anybody but the fighters.”

There are also complications with Pacquiao, who wants to run for Congress in the Philippines. Arum has said that might necessitate a fight in March, which would mean the package must be signed by the end of this month.

“March is not ideal,” Greenburg said. “All our promotion would have to be during the Winter Olympics.

The time to have this fight is April, May or June.

“And it's crucial for our sport. Not that boxing is in such desperate straits by any means. But this should be our Super Bowl. It will break records. I know it will be difficult. I think, why do I get into this?”

Someone suggested that super-fights usually don't die on paper.

“From your mouth to God's ears,” Greenburg said.

Mayweather will be promoted by Golden Boy, and its chairman, Richard Schaefer, said the talks will begin this week.

“Tell Richard to call me after Wednesday,” said Bob Arum, Pacquiao's promoter.

That means Arum wants to see the pay-per-view numbers. Greenburg downplayed that factor, even saying these buys might not exceed the one million that Mayweather and Juan Manuel Marquez generated. Most feel Pacquiao-Cotto will do at least 1.5 million.

But think about that: a million and a half buys, at $54.95, is $82.4 million. In a recession. And Pacquiao-Mayweather will do much better.

“I'm just hoping that a percentage point here or there won't kill this fight and I don't think it will,” Greenburg said. “I think of (Muhammad) Ali and (Joe) Frazier, in 1971. That was $2.5 million for each. They realized what it meant. This will define both guys.”

Roach already has defined Mayweather.

“Sure, he's quick,” Roach said. “But Manny has more hand speed. He'll attack Floyd and try to make him fight every minute of every round. And Floyd can't break an egg. There's no way he'll knock out Manny Pacquiao.”

Well, Cotto couldn't.

“This guy is special,” Roach said. “He hung out on the ropes early tonight and I yelled at him and he said he was all right, and he was. He works so hard. I told him he couldn't run on Sundays. He said, well, somewhere I have an opponent who runs on Sundays. He's a once-in-a-lifetime fighter.”

“Freddie's not my trainer anymore,” Pacquiao said. “I call him the master.”

And, with that, Pacquiao cleared his throat.

“You ask me if I love you, and I choke on my reply,” he sang. Then he cut off “Sometimes When We Touch,” hugged Arum, and walked away.

And maybe that will be the theme for the first Fight Of Next Decade.

Shock and awe.

PACMAN TOP OF THE CLASS

Not for the first time whilst watching a Manny Pacquiao fight I was left open-jawed this past weekend at the exploits of the Pinoy phenomenon.

Pacquiao looked absolutely sensational as he stopped fellow 'pound-for-pound' star Miguel Cotto in the final round of an absorbing battle in Las Vegas.

Even by his own remarkable standards it was an extraordinary showing by the 'Pac Man', who in beating Cotto made boxing history by winning a seventh title in a seventh weight division.

It was enough to convince me that Pacquiao should again usurp Floyd Mayweather as the best 'pound-for-pound' fighter on the planet. But I am equally convinced that said two superstars simply have to put aside their differences and face each other in 2010 and let the boxing public find out once and for all just who the top man really is.

Mayweather claims he is the sport's brightest star right now and one cannot praise enough the way he returned from a near two-year hiatus to totally outclass the classy Juan Manuel Marquez recently.

However after sensational stoppage wins over Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton and now Cotto there can be little argument that Pacquiao is the hottest ticket in town.

Cotto gave as good as he got early on at the MGM Grand but ultimately he was unable to cope with the speed, accuracy, industry and all round brilliance of the mercurial Pacquiao.

It was gallant failure for the Puerto Rican (who drops a place to fifth on our latest list), who gave his all but who perhaps played into Pacquiao's hands somewhat by constantly walking forward and who may have benefited from having a more experienced corner (who in truth really should have pulled him out long before that final round).

Despite fancying Cotto to spring a shock before the first bell sometimes you just have to hold your hands up and say you got it all wrong. Pacquiao's a freak of nature and a fighter I won't be under-estimating again.

Cotto was dropped in round three and again, heavily, after a crackerjack left hand in round four that he did well to rise from. He was game to the last but simply had no answer to Pacquiao, who is on a sensational run and who just seems to be getting better and better.

It's incredible to think that that since his life and death struggle with Marquez in March 2008 as a super-feather Pacquiao has added 17 pounds to his frame and yet claimed three world titles. There seems to be no limit to what the man can achieve and his win over a hungry Cotto, a fine fighter in his own right still very much in his prime, might just be his best ever.

We already knew about the blazing hand speed, the dazzling footwork and his punching ability but what impressed me most about Saturday was the way he took plenty of flush shots from the heavy hands of Cotto and yet shook them off.

Cotto brought the heat to him several times at the MGM Grand but Pacquiao was able to ride out the storm and return fire with big shots of his own. He looked in quite incredible shape and praise must also go to his conditioning team who have developed him into a bona fide welterweight star.

It struck me while I was watching the fight that in Pacquiao we are definitely watching an all-timer at work here. A great fighter who I feel, should he be victorious against Mayweather, would have to be considered among the likes of Henry Armstrong, Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali and the absolute elite.

His adventures over the past 12 months or so have been schoolboy's own stuff and I feel the public clamour for a fight with Mayweather will prove too intense for the fight not to happen.

Boxing over the past decade has been littered with Super Fights between marquee names where either one of both of the protagonists have been past their best. Yet we have a situation here where we have two men operating at or at least very close to the absolute peak of their powers.

It's an opportunity too good to miss and one hopes the fans and media begin beating the drum now and demand that the fight takes place, much as they did back in 1981 when another two outrageously talented welterweights, Sugar Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns, were on a collision course.

Elsewhere on the 'pound-for-pound' beat this month Chad Dawson went over old ground when he again decisioned 'Road Warrior' Glen Johnson.

It was workmanlike rather than spectacular stuff from 'Bad' Chad, who needs a big fight of his own now and was talking post-fight of accommodating fellow unbeaten Tavoris Cloud next up.

Dawson is 29-0 and at 27 is entering his prime so it's time his promotional team began to match him against the very best and see if he'll sink or swim. Having seen him at close quarters my guess is he'll kick on and crack the world top five 'pound-for-pound' before long but he won't do so by going over old ground against men like Johnson and Antonio Tarver.
