Manny wants 60-40 split vs Mayweather

Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao wants no less than a 60-40 split in his favor if and when a fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr takes place.

This was revealed by Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach, who told boxingscene.com that Pacquiao based his demands on the pay-per-view numbers of his last fight against Miguel Cotto, compared to the numbers generated by the Mayweather-Juan Manuel Marquez bout.

Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum is currently in the country to lure Pacquiao into a possible March 13 bout possibly against Mayweather.

Roach told the Los Angeles Times that talks of a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight being close to a done deal is premature.

“Manny believes he should get a 60-40 [purse] split too, because he did better in pay-per-view than Mayweather this year. Manny's the bigger draw,” Roach told the Times.

The multi-awarded trainer, however, believes that a March fight with Mayweather might be too early, especially following a hard fight against Miguel Cotto.

“March 13 is too fast a turnaround,” Roach said. “Manny has a broken [right] eardrum suffered in the Cotto fight. I'd like to have more time. I hope the fight happens, yes, but I want us to be in the best possible shape.”

The original plan was for Pacquiao to see action on May 1, if nobody had stepped up to face him in the congressional contest in Saranggani. However, following Roy Chiongbian's filing of his certificate of candidacy, organizers will have to move it earlier to March or push it back to September.

Reps of both the Superdome in New Orleans and the new Dallas Cowboys' stadium have sent feelers for them to host the bout, as has the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where both fighters have fought their biggest fights.

There is also a proposal for a 30,000-seat temporary stadium to be set up on the Las Vegas Strip just across the Wynn resort.

This is another thing that needs to be arranged before the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight. 60-40 might sound alright but multiply that in millions and that 10% becomes really big.
